Exploratory study about the relationship between the strategy adopted by the children in a situation of failure in the game and the acceptance of peers.

Abstract

This paper is an exploratory study to investigate if there is a relationship between the strategy adopted by the children in a situation of failure in the game and the acceptance or rejection of their classmates. For this, we have based on the research "Rejection among equals in their interpersonal context. An investigation with boys and girls of first cycle of primary school " that collected data of the behaviors and social skills that children show when they play. Through questions nº11 and nº12 of the GREI questionnaire, where each child imagined himself in a situation playing the marbles and losing the game, we analyzed how they score each of the 5 possible options that were given to them to face the situation (strategies : self-referential, aggressive, passive, competent and intervention of the figure of authority). To analize these results, we haveused the SPSS, using the crossed tables, to check the correlations between each strategy and the sociometric type of the children. As a result, we found that, surprisingly, there are hardly any differences between the strategies preferred by average and rejected children. However, there is one exception: 8% of rejected children considered the "aggressive" option as very good, compared to 0% of average children, which resulted in a significant difference. In turn, in the experimental group, with preventive / corrective treatment, 100% of the average and rejected children chose the "competent" option as the best strategy to face defeat in the game.

El presente trabajo es un estudio exploratorio para indagar si existe relación entre la estrategia adoptada por los niños en una situación de fracaso en el juego y la aceptación o rechazo de sus compañeros de clase. Para ello nos hemos basado en la investigación “El rechazo entre iguales en su contexto interpersonal. Una investigación con niños y niñas de primer ciclo de primaria” que recogió datos de los comportamientos y habilidades sociales que muestran los niños cuando juegan. A través de las preguntas nº11 y nº12 del Cuestionario GREI, donde se pedía a cada niño imaginarse en una situación jugando a las canicas y perdiendo la partida, hemos analizado cómo puntúan cada una de las 5 posibles opciones que se les dieron para afrontar la situación (estrategia autoreferente, agresiva, pasiva, competente e intervención de la figura de autoridad). A raíz de estos resultados hemos utilizado el SPSS, empleando las tablas cruzadas, para comprobar las correlaciones entre cada estrategia y el tipo sociométrico de los niños. Como resultado de ello, comprobamos que, sorprendentemente, no hay apenas diferencias entre las estrategias que los niños promedio y rechazados consideran mejores. Sin embargo, hay una excepción: un 8% de los niños rechazados consideraron la opción “agresiva” como muy buena, frente al 0% de niños promedio, lo que resultó en una diferencia significativa. A su vez, en el grupo experimental con tratamiento educativo preventivo/correctivo, el 100% de niños promedios y rechazados escogieron la opción “competente” como la mejor estrategia para afrontar el fracaso en el juego.
