Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a dual-focused
educational approach in which an additional language is used for the
learning and teaching of content and language with the objective of
promoting both content and language mastery to pre-defined levels.
(Marsh, Mehisto, Wolff & Frigols-Matin, 2010, p.11).
The Spanish educational system, although having bilingual programs working with
the communities’ official languages, has still not included CLIL programs. Within
this study, a CLIL Didactic Unit has been designed to be implemented with a group of
students of second of ESO so as to observe how it would work in our educational
system. During the survey, different points of view will be considered to have as
much information as possible in order to give a conclusion. The students’ opinions as
well as the teacher’s comments will be taken into account to round up this study.
Results show a considerable interest in these kinds of learning programs for both
parts, students and the teacher. Both parts are aware of the importance CLIL programs
have for the students future and also, they see them as a way of improving the
learning process. The teacher gives a great importance to teachers’ preparation in
order to work with these programs; students feel they would like to be able to learn in
English any kind of content and sometimes, they find it easier when they are not
directly focusing on the language. [-]
