Our object of
study are
maternal behavio
u
rs
, defined as every conduct aimed at increasing
the
survival
of the offspring.
These behaviours
also
contribute to the
proper physical and
psychological
development of the
infants
,
whereas their
e alterations
produce
serious disorders
that could threaten the life of the offspring.
Our working hypothesis is that the
socio
-
sexual brain (
neural
circuit
regulating social
behaviours),
undergoes profound functional changes during motherhood,
becom
ing
especially
sensitive to the offspring
and promoting maternal behaviours
.
To test this,
we have exposed
mouse females (mothers and virgins) to different stimuli (pups and buttons), and we have
quantified
the derived
neuronal activity by means of the
immunohistochemical detection of the

brain
.
Our study did not find significant differences
in the neuronal activation
of
the
studied
nuclei
,
although the
re was a tendency in one of them
(
ventromedial hypothalamus
)
.
We also

(

amígdala
,

and

indicating that these are
activated in a coordinated fashion.
These data
suggest
functional changes in the brain related
to motherhood. [-]

Nuestra hipótesis de trabajo es que
el cerebro socio

sexual
(
circuito
neural que regula las

)
experimenta cambios funcionales
profundos

volvi

especialmente
sensibles a las crías
y facilitando la conducta maternal
.
Para
comprobar esto, hemos
expuesto a
