The general objective of this work has been the synthesis of macrocyclic pseudopeptides
derived from C2 symmetric open chain systems previously developed by the group and
tetrakis(bromomethyl)benzene. This was considered as it could lead to a more rigid
macrocyclic system (ansa-like) with a higher degree of preorganization.
• PERSONAL OBJECTIVES
I. To gain experience in the use and application of sophisticated characterization
techniques such as 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, Mass Spectrometry, IR Spectroscopy,
SEM and TGA.
II. To gain training in the setting of a research laboratory, increasing the teamwork
skills under a cooperative environment.
III. To increase the knowledge and good laboratory practices for safety
methodologies to prevent unnecessary risks.
IV. To better understand the crucial role of sustainability in the chemistry field,
applying the concepts learnt throughout the master’s degree.
• GENERAL RESEARCH OBJECTIVE
I. To develop an efficient methodology for the synthesis of unknown macrocyclic
compounds from tetrakis(halomethyl)benzene.
II. To study the driving forces for the optimization of the syntheses of these
macrocycles.
III. To study the properties of the final products.
• SPECIFIC RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
I. To obtain macrocycles with a modified structure through introducing a more rigid
spacer.
II. To carry out kinetic studies to try to understand the mechanism of the reaction.
III. To carry out theoretical calculations to corroborate the experimental observations
with the conformations obtained.
IV. To fully characterize the 3D macrocycles with a wide range of structural
techniques. [-]
