The main objective of this Degree Final Project is to explore the analytical
capabilities of gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (GC
MS/MS) using triple quadrupole (QqQ) analyzer for the determination of
organophosphorus (OP) insecticides in water samples. The study of their
capabilities, limitations and ways of working has allowed us to know the
instrumental equipment in order to focus on the determination and quantification
of pesticides in surface and underground water.
During the completion of this degree final project, the following specific
objectives have been completed:
1. Development and validation of analytical methodology based on GC
MS/MS (QqQ) for quantification and confirmation of three organic
contaminants at ppb concentration levels in water, using solid phase
extraction (SPE) as extraction/preconcentration technique.
2. Study and optimization of chromatographic methodology by GC-MS/MS
(QqQ) for the determination of chlorfenvinfos, chlorpyrifos-methyl and
chlorpyrifos-ethyl, giving special attention to the correct identification and
confirmation of detected compounds.
3. Learn to operate the instrument and its software making the optimizations
and verifications required to ensure that the conditions of the
measurements are correct, including the programming methods and the
sample analysis sequences.
4. Study and optimization of SPE using C18 and HLB cartridges for the
determination of analytes selected in superficial water samples.
5. Application of the developed procedure to real water samples.
6. Acquire knowledge to be able to interpret the results from chromatograms,
tables or other and thus be able to make corrections, optimizations and
collection of appropriate conclusions.
7. Finally, know and see the manner of working in a research laboratory, more
professional than the academic laboratory of the University. [-]
