solucionar. [-]

This research examines the treatment of women and the diversity of topics in the
Spanish sports press. To this end, a case study has been carried out on the
newspapers Marca and Mundo Deportivo. The methodology is based on an
analysis of the quantitative, longitudinal and retrospective content of the covers
to be analysed and their respective themes that end up forming the cover page.
The sample includes 80 covers located in a 20-year band (from 1998 to 2017).
The results confirm that the presence of women is non-existent, as they only
appear on 11,25% of the covers of the sports press and always appear as
secondary news. With regard to the plurality of themes, football is present in
91,25% of the main themes and in 67,94% of the themes that end up forming the
80 covers. Therefore, football is the predominant sport. In terms of sources, only 10,32% of sources are female compared to 75,81% of male sources. Although
there has been an increase in the last five years, when 45,71% of the female
sources obtained are to be found, the need to incorporate female journalists and
experts in the sports field continues to be a problem to be solved. [-]
