The potential of renewable energies for contributing to sustainable development
is thoroughly accepted. In rural areas, the energy transition would contribute not only
to the environmental viability, but also to the improvement of the socioeconomic conditions
through the creation and consolidation of new job positions. In this frame, the
Erasmus+ project “IN2RURAL. Innovative Practices in Renewable Energies to Improve
Rural Employability”, aims at strengthening the university students’ employability in
the field of renewable energies for rural development in the provinces of Bacau (Romania),
Castellón (Spain) and Gyöngyös (Hungary). Implemented between September 2014
and August 2017, the project has developed intellectual products, multiplier events and
learning activities, which have directly benefited more than 450 persons. The natural
confluence of renewable energies, rural development and employability has facilitated
the implementation of IN2RURAL, which can be considered as an open space for university
social responsibility initiatives. [-]
