How
should
we teach? What educational tools should be used in the
clas
s
room? In formal education it is no easy task to identify and apply the
most appropriate and efficient tools available to teachers
so that students
learn properly in line with the competences established for each subject
and, at the same time, so the subject matter and the way it is dealt with are
mea
n
ingful for the students’ personal and professional futures. Although this
chapter f
ocuses on formal education, many concepts and problems also are
applicable to non
-
formal and informal education. The interrelations are ev
i-
dent, including the links between schools and families (García Moriyón,
2004). The complexities of teaching practice
includes elements such as
the
system
,
the teaching staff
, and
the students
. We will refer to these three
components of formal education in what follows. This chapter is based on
the review of three pedagogical models in cu
r
rent use and aims to verify
how t
hey contribute to create a nonkilling ed
u
cation. These models are
structured in three stages, taking into account their approach to the cu
r-
ric
u
lum and the interpersonal dynamics in the classroom. [-]
