Over the last two decades,
our
global society has experienced deep changes at all levels. The
strong emergence of new technologies in our ever
yday lives is considered the primary factor.
However,
education in most countries has not responded to this transformation,
doomed to its
failure
.
Consequently,
there has been
an increase of
interest in the new education models
that
are more in line with t
he
demands
of the
XXI
st
century
society. These models are
characterised by the introduction of
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)
and by practices more centred to students.
One of these models is
Flipped Classroom, which
is
the
subject of th
is
paper
. Thus, this paper aims to analyse in depth this model in order to
better understand its pedagogic fundamentals and
accordingly design
a teaching proposal
for
an
English as a foreign language context
.
The Flipped Classroom
(FC)
model implies
basica
lly to reverse the traditional educational practice
in the sense that
what is traditionally
done in class is now done at home
and what is traditionally done as homework is now
completed in class.
Therefore, the theoretical part is moved outside the classro
om enhanced
by the use of
technological devices
and class time is devoted
to more practical and
collaborative activities, which is especially suitable for foreign language
learning purposes
.
In spite of the fact that the teaching proposal presented in this
paper
has not been
implemented and therefore its possible results are
difficult to predict,
there are rea
sons to
believe that this educational model has a great potential in the current educational context.
In
the
last part of the theoretical
framework
of
th
is
paper
there is a mention to the positive
results this model has had in many
schools
so far. [-]
