In this paper we intend to study bilingualism (two oral languages) in children with
cochlear implants. The aim of this study is to verify if such bilingualism in children
with cochlear implants is possible. To carry the study, an evaluation of the children's
language development in the two official languages of the Valencian Community
(Spanish-Valencian) will be done with a child of 5 years and 9 months who has had a
bilateral cochlear implant since he was 2 years and 10 months old and goes to an early
care center periodically.
This evaluation will be done through the analysis of the results obtained in the ELI
(Evaluación del Lenguaje Infantil- Infant Language Assessment) test and a narrative
memory test through reading a story with images. Among the results found, it can be
pointed out that bilingualism in children with cochlear implants is possible, although it
is concluded that, given the unique character of this study, the results are not
generalizable and there are still not enough studies carried out with empirical
methodology and population contrast to confirm the previous conclusion scientifically. [-]
