There are different studies that have found differences between the brain structure of professional musicians and non-musicians. These studies suggested greater density of the gray matter and greater length of the precentral gyrus, as well as differences in the main fiber output tract of the precentral gyrus. According to the conclusions of these studies, there is a correlation between the hand motor skills and the gray matter density of the lobe that controls that hand in a subregion of the precentral gyrus also called omega. In this study we investigated this in a sample of 92 participants of which 52 were musicians and 40 non-musicians. In our sample we find that laterality has a greater effect than musical training on the gray matter density that forms omega. Right-handed musics showed a lower omega sign than controls, whereas no differences were found for left-handers. [-]
