Unit 1: How to write a CV or Résumé

Abstract

In this unit we'll revise the standard layouts of a Curriculum Vitae, which information to include in your CV and how to organise it. Special attention is paid on the most frequently conceptual and cultural misunderstandings as well as on writing errors. You'll find a special section on the differences between CV and Résumé layouts. The unit includes a description of a CV layout, its organisation and sections. Particular interest is paid to the Europass CV as the most generally accepted CV layout within the EU. In the next section, the concept of Résumé is presented as an alternative and preferred form of CV writing in some particular countries such as the United States. Finally, you'll have to accomplish a series of activities. In the first activity you'll have to detect deficiencies and errors from an already given CV, correct these errors and improve the final version. Then, a second activity includes the writing of your own CV. You'll have to use everything learnt in the unit to write a neat and accurate Curriculum Vitae. At the end, you'll be provided with a key-CV to self-correct your writing.
