Promoción de la lactancia materna por el personal sanitario

Abstract

Introducción: La iniciativa “Protección, Promoción y Apoyo a la Lactancia Natural”, lanzada por OMS y UNICEF describe los 10 pasos hacía una feliz lactancia natural que será también la base de la “Iniciativa para la Humanización de la Asistencia al Nacimiento y la Lactancia”. El apoyo por parte del personal sanitario (matronas, pediatras, ginecólogos etc.) comienza con la difusión de los beneficios de la lactancia materna (LM) durante el período prenatal y continúa con el posparto a partir del contacto piel con piel que formará el principio de un vínculo afectivo entre la madre e hijo. Objetivo: Revisar la literatura publicada sobre la promoción de la LM por parte del personal sanitario. Material y método: Se realiza una revisión integradora basada en la evidencia científica sobre la promoción de la LM por el personal sanitario. Se realiza una búsqueda en distintas bases de datos: MedLine, Biblioteca Cochrane, ScienceDirect y SciELO. Al mismo tiempo se consultaron fuentes científicas tanto de ámbito nacional como internacional (OMS, Estrategia Mundial para la Alimentación del Lactante y del Niño Pequeño etc.) y varías guías y artículos de interés. Conclusión: A pesar del alto grado de implicación, hay muchas necesidades de formación en la promoción de la LM por parte del personal sanitario. Se deben desarrollar más programas de formación hacia la “Promoción, protección y apoyo en la LM” para conseguir un aumento de su prevalencia y duración.

Objective: To review published literature on the promotion of LM by health personnel. Material and method: An integrative review based on the scientific evidence on the promotion of LM by the health personnel is carried out. A search is made in different databases: MedLine, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect and SciELO. At the same time, the national and international scientific sources of WHO, the World Strategy for the Nutrition of Breastfeeding and the Young Child are consulted, such as guide variants and articles of interest. Conclusion: Despite the high degree of involvement, there are many training needs in the promotion of LM by health personnel. More training programs should be developed towards “Promotion, protection and support in the LM ", to obtain an increase its prevalence and duration.
