Introduction. Over the last decade, breast cancer surgery has become less invasive
and potentially suitable for day surgery, although persistent pain after breast cancer
surgery is a significant clinical problem that affects up to 60% of patients. Quantifying
the quality of postoperative recovery stands out among the important quality indicators
used in clinical situations. Our aim was to evaluate this after non-reconstructive breast
surgery was performed under general anesthesia, in the early and late post-operative
period.
Design. One hundred patients have been studied in this epidemiological,
observational, unicentric and prospective study.
Methods. The data collected includes: age, type of anesthesia, use of rescue
analgesic drugs and postoperative pain after 24 hours. The quality of post-anesthetic
recovery was quantified by Postoperative Quality Recovery Scale, which is used to
assess physiological, nociceptive, emotional, autonomy, cognitive and general state
domains at different times: baseline (before surgery), 15 min after the end of surgery,
at time of discharge from hospital, and one month after surgery.
Results. The results will be expressed as percentages of recovery comparing them to
the baseline PQRS.
Conclusions. The study presents the following limitations: it is performed in a single
hospital and the influence of other factors on pain can condition the results (duration of
surgery, surgical risk, ASA). [-]
