Autopercepciones sociales, subestimación y sobreestimación de la aceptación y el rechazo en alumnado de 4º, 5º y 6º de primaria

Abstract

Las relaciones entre iguales dan forma a un contexto social donde se aprenden habilidades y procesos esenciales para la adaptación, por ello ser aceptado o rechazado en la escuela primaria juega un papel muy importante para el desarrollo de niños y niñas. El objetivo del presente estudio es conocer si existen diferencias en las autopercepciones de aceptación y rechazo dependiendo del género, la edad y el tipo sociométrico de los sujetos, y también conocer si, dependiendo del tipo sociométrico, hay diferentes tendencias a subestimar o sobreestimar la aceptación y el rechazo. Para ello se administró un cuestionario sociométrico de nominaciones entre iguales. La muestra está compuesta por 1182 estudiantes de 4º, 5º y 6º de primaria. Los principales resultados indican que las chicas tienen mayores percepciones positivas que los chicos. También se indica que a medida que los sujetos crecen, tienen un mayor número de percepciones tanto positivas como negativas. En cuanto a los tipos sociométricos, a medida que aumenta el estatus sociométrico aumentan las percepciones positivas y disminuyen las negativas. Finalmente, los rechazados sobreestiman la aceptación y subestiman el rechazo, al contrario que los medios y los preferidos. Hemos discutido estos resultados en base al sesgo de ilusión positiva y su función autoprotectora.

Peer relationships make a social context in which skills and processes that are essential for adaptation are learned, so being accepted or rejected in primary school plays a very important role in the development of children. The objective of the present study is to know if there are differences in acceptance and rejection perceptions depending on the gender, age and sociometric status of the subjects. And also to know if there are tendencies to underestimate or overestimate acceptance and rejection depending on the sociometric status. A sociometric questionnaire of nominations between peers was administered. The sample is made up of 1182 students from 4th, 5th and 6th grade. The main results indicate that girls have higher positive perceptions than boys. It is also indicated that when subjects grow up they have a mayor number of both positive and negative perceptions. As for sociometric status, the results indicate that when sociometric status are higher, subjects have more positive perceptions and less negatives perceptions. Finally, rejected subjects overestimate acceptance and underestimate rejection, contrary to the average and the popular ones. We have discussed these results based on the positive illusion bias and its self-protective function.
