Introduction: Major depressive disorder is a common, disabling and recurrent psychopathology, with multiple consequences in this vital stage and in adulthood. To avoid this, several treatments have been developed, including psychotherapies, from which there is a wide variety. Therefore, the aim of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of various psychotherapies regarding the prevention and treatment of this disorder in adolescents. Methodology: Integrative review of the scientific literature was conducted, using controlled language in English, in the following databases: BVS, PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PubPsych and PsycNet in February 2017. Hence, inclusion and exclusion criteria were used in the choice of articles, as well as idiomatic, temporal and full text filters.
Results and Discussion. A total amount of 993 articles were found, 15 of them were included and reviewed. A large number of psychotherapies regarding the treatment and the prevention of this psychopathology were identified, even though the biggest amount were about healing.
Conclusion. Based on the information provided, it cannot be determined that there exists a psychotherapy which diminishes the age of onset and the recurrence of this disorder. Nevertheless, within the treatment, the vast majority of this kind of therapies are effective. [-]
