La comunitat d'aus de l'aiguamoll del Quadre de Santiago (Benicàssim, E de la península ibèrica)

Abstract

Els estudis d’avifauna es poden dur a terme des de diferents aproximacions. Una de les més generals consisteix en descriure els índexs ecològics bàsics aplicats als diferents ecosistemes i a diferents èpoques de l’any, la qual cosa permet fer una definició general mitjançant índexs comparables. El Quadre de Santiago és una zona humida que actualment es desseca per l’acció d’un sistema de bombeig que expulsa al mar al voltant de 2 Hm3 d’aigua per any. Mitjançant aquest estudi es pretén fer una aproximació a l’estat de conservació actual de l’avifauna d’aquest ecosistema. L’avifauna de l’aiguamoll del Quadre de Santiago mostra nombrosos elements antròpics en la seva composició, amb elevats índexs de dominancia en algunes èpoques o biòtops determinats, situació propiciada per la poca extensió dels biòtops existents i pel drenatge de l’àrea, que altera la composició natural de l’avifauna d’aquest aiguamoll. No obstant això, les intenses pluges de 2015 van propiciar alts nivells d’inundació que van permetre comparar aquests índexs entre situacions de sequedat i amb aigua superficial. Es mostra que en els biòtops més dependents de l’aigua (senillars i prats inundables) la riquesa d’espècies i altres indicadors van incrementar de forma significativa, apuntant a un augment de l’equilibri de l’avifauna en tota l’àrea. Aquest treball mostra, que si bé l’estat de conservació de l’avifauna pot considerar-se deficient, el Quadre de Santiago manté prácticament intacta la seva capacitat d’acolliment tant per a espècies migrants com nidificants. Unes senzilles mesures de conservació recuperarien l’important valor ecològic d’aquest aiguamoll mediterrani.

Avifauna studies can be performed from different approaches, one of the most general is the description of the basic ecological indices applied to different ecosystems and at different times of the year, which allows a general definition by comparable indexes. The Cuadro de Santiago wetland is currently being dried out by the action of a pumping system that discharges about 2 Hm3 of water per year to the sea. Through this study I try to make an approach to the current state of conservation of the birds in this ecosystem. The avifauna of the Cuadro de Santiago wetland shows numerous antropic elements in its composition, with high levels of dominance at certain times of the year or in certain biotopes, caused by the small size of existing biotopes and the drainage, which alters the natural composition of the avifauna. However, the heavy rains of 2015 led to high water levels that allowed the comparision of the ecologycal indexes with and without surface water, showing that in those biotopes most dependent on water (reed beds and floodable meadows), species richness increased significantly, and other indexes improved, pointing to an increase in the equilibrium of the avifauna throughout the area. This work shows that although the conservation of the bird fauna in the ecosystem can be ated as deficient, the Cuadro de Santiago keeps its carrying capacity for both migrant and nesting species almost intact. Simple conservation measures would recover the important ecological value of this Mediterranean wetland.
