The present study has a double objective, firstly to explore and analyze the type of coping strategies
used by teachers in secondary school, to motivate those students who have the abilities to learn but
do not want, as well as to identify the supports with Which the teachers have to mitigate this
problem. Secondly, to identify those latent strengths and weaknesses in teaching performance and
propose improvement actions.
The sample is composed of 15 science professors from the different institutes of the province of
Barcelona, which teach the subjects of experimental and social sciences. All collaborated
anonymously and voluntarily. The instrument used for data collection was a semi-structured
interview composed of a total of 7 items.
This study is based on the Educational Situation Quality Model (MOCSE), where teachers who
perceive or attribute that they have many supports and few barriers, will have expectations of
success and therefore active coping in the motivation of their students, On the contrary, if the
teaching teacher detects many barriers around him and few supports to access the teaching and
motivation of his students, he will have expectations of failure and focus his behavior towards
avoidance, that is, a passive coping.
Regarding the educational implications for education, taking into account that if we are able to
activate student motivation, as well as facilitate support and destroy barriers, we will be assured
success in learning. This research puts at the service of the teacher the analysis of the different
variables that influence the academic performance of the students, as well as different effective
strategies of coping for their motivation [-]
