Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST) of J.A. Gray (1970, 1982) revised by Gray &
McNaughton (2000) proposes the existence of three systems neural, responsible of the
detection, processing and response of stimuli, closely related with the reward, the punishment
and a last system related in mediate the response in situations of threatens: the system of
activation behavioral (BAS), the system of inhibition behavioral (BIS) and the system of system
of fight-flight-freezing (FFFS). However, measures of the activity of these systems as the scale's
sensitivity to the punishment not separate the activity of the BIS and the FFS, so no difference
between fear and anxiety. In this work we use 398 participants data and carry out an analysis of
factorial for the extraction of the two factors that correspond to the items belonging with the
subescalas FFFS and BIS. Once done, we correlate the scores on the scale SC, factorially
separating those corresponding to each subscale FFFS/BIS, and the volume of gray matter in
those regions associated with punishment, as structures of the septo-hipocampal system, the
amygdala or anterior cingulate cortex. The results showed a positive correlation between the
scores associated with the BIS and FFFS subscales with the anterior cingulate cortex and the
amygdala, respectively. On the other hand, is observed a correlation positive with them scores
on the scale SC and the volume of substance grey in tonsil. The previous research supports the
data thus obtained as result of great relevance for your interest in the study of depression,
anxiety and phobias psychopathological disorders. [-]
