Estudio piloto sobre el desarrollo de la empatía en 2º Y 3r ciclo de primaria

Abstract

La empatía, estudiada desde una perspectiva multidimensional, es la capacidad que tienen las personas para dar una respuesta a los otros, teniendo en cuenta los aspectos cognitivos y afectivos. En este estudio piloto se plantean tres objetivos: (a) analizar el desarrollo de la empatía en 3º, 4º, 5º y 6º de primaria, (b) observar la influencia que tiene la variable género sobre la empatía y (c) comparar los datos en cuanto a género y edad con los presentados en la muestra holandesa “A Closer Examination of its Internal Structure” (de Wied, et al., 2007). Todo esto se evalúa mediante el Index of Empathy for Children and Adolescents, de Bryant (1982) que centra su enfoque en los aspectos emocionales. Para ello se utiliza una muestra compuesta por 146 estudiantes de edades comprendidas entre los 8 y los 12 años, 87 chicos y 59 chicas, del C.E.I.P Sanchis Yago en la provincia de Castellón. Los resultados indican que: (a) durante el 2º y 3r ciclo de primaria se observa un ligero desarrollo de la empatía, y no se realiza de forma gradual, (b) se obtienen puntuaciones más altas por parte de las chicas pero con poca diferencia con respecto a la de los chicos y (c) los datos obtenidos en la muestra española son más elevados que los presentados por la muestra holandesa.

Studying the concept of empathy through a multidimensional perspective is the ability of a person to give an answer to others taking into account both the cognitive and affective aspects. This experimental study sets out three objectives: (a) to analyze the development of empathy in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade, (b) to observe the influence of the gender variable on empathy and (c) to compare the gender and age results with those given in the Dutch sample "a Closer Examination of Its Internal Structure" (Minet of Wied, et al., 2007). All this is assessed by the Index of Empathy for Children and Adolescents, Bryant (1982) focusing its approach on the emotional aspects. The sample comprised 146 students aged between 8 and 12 years, 87 boys and 59 girls from the C.E.I.P Sanchis Yago in the Castellon province. The results show that: (a) during the 2nd and 3rd cycle of primary there isn’t a meaningful increase in empathy and the increase is not gradual, (b) higher scores are obtained by girls but with little difference from the boys and (c) the results obtained in the national sample are higher than those presented in the Dutch one.
