Environment managements systems in the citrus companies in the Valencian Community

Abstract

Although agriculture represents a declining percentage of the GDP of Spain and importance in modern society, it is one of the core business activities playing an important role in preserving the environment. A proper environmental management system is a key tool for a good management of this sector’s environmental aspects. The aim of this paper is to explain the importance of environmental management systems in the Valencian agricultural sector, especially in the product-handling centrals. To this end, it will be explained in detail, not only environmental management systems and their costs, but also possible financial available grants as well as other techniques and systems that companies can adopt to become more efficient, causing the least possible impact on the environment.
