Football, being the sport king in Spain, has got greater prominence in
recent years and has gone from being a spectacle to a business for the media.
But the high prices for the purchase and operation of television rights is a high
cost, uneconomic although satisfactory in terms of the share is concerned,
which has resulted in a “football war” between the main media and the football
clubs. The attention that football has got has led that the rest of sports,
considered minority sports, have been in the background for media and do not
raise the same interest for the bids of acquisition of their rights. This
investigation aims to know what the reasons are why football is considered a
media spectacle and not entertainment. As well as the differences that the
media makes about football compared to the rest of sports when the Spain
brand strengthens the image of the country and what factors are those which
have in mind when they have to make million dollar purchases for the football
television rights. All of this from a business strategic point of view. For this
purpose will be done an enunciative, narrative and comparative analysis
between football and basketball about the media coverage in two comparable
events as it is the final European competition. [-]
