El lento amanecer del cristianismo en la provincia de Castellón

Abstract

Cuando en el año 57 d. C. San Pablo manifiesta en su Epístola a los Romanos su deseo de venir a España (15. 24), se cita por primera vez el intento de difundir el cristianismo en el área occidental del Imperio Romano (15. 29). Muchas van a ser las vicisitudes de esa difusión hasta que queda materializada en el III Concilio de Toledo con la adopción de la fe católica por Recaredo. Las noticias más importantes de cristianos en el área de la Tarraconense las conocemos por Ireneo en su Aduersus haereticos confirmado por Tertuliano en su Aduersus Iudaeos, unos años más tarde. Sabemos que tras las revueltas y persecución de los cristianos en Scillium (Cartago), una importante cantidad de cristianos se trasladaron a Hispania (zonas de la Tarraconense y la Bética). De Cucufate y Félix tenemos conocimiento por el Breviario de la diócesis de Barcelona, que difundieron el cristianismo por la zona mediterránea.
