The aim of this communication is to identify the Twitter’s discourses about
women’s presence in business leadership positions. The lack of women in power
positions is a central issue in European political and economic agenda. For its social
relevance, there is a need to ask critically about the role that play in this phenomenon
the government agencies, business associations and/or citizen organizations.
Consequently, we are interested in the media discourse and the values associated with
women leaders through Twitter. This social network has a great potential for social
mobilization, and its simplicity allow us to send quick messages, which impact at the
collective imagination. We want to know if these representations contribute to the
feminist struggle, or perpetuate asymmetric structures, because this is a central issue to
the achievement of a fairer society. [-]
