Bullying has been subject of study and intervention for over 40 years and still it is a persistent
issue of growing concern in society. These studies have increasingly been moving but so has the
bullying too. One of these new bullying developments, it is known as cyberbullying, which it is
performed through new information and communications technologies (ICT).
The aim of this study was to observe the general prevalence and types of bullying and
cyberbullying, as well as the influence of sex on both phenomena. Screening of peer bullying
and cyberbullying (Garaigordobil, 2013) was used in a sample of 81 secondary school students
with an average age of 12 years. The results show a higher prevalence of bullying compared
with cyberbullying. On the other hand, it shows that the most common forms of bullying are
physical and verbal. Lastly, greater participation by boys in school bullying is observed,
however, in the case of cyberbullying no differences between genders could be found. [-]
