Happiness or subjective well-being fits properly in the new branch of psychology,
known as “Positive Psychology”. The aim of this paper is to know all the aspects that
this concept involves – definition, evaluation, research. In order to achieve that, an
exhaustive search in the databases has been conducted. What we have seen is that
investigation is progressing a lot in different areas such as education, health, etc., but
more especially in the employment context. Work is incorporated as an important factor
that contributes largely to general well-being and, with intervention, people can be
happier during the performance of their job role. In terms of personality factors,
findings indicate that extraversion and neuroticism are those that influence the most.
When talking about health, we can conclude that well-being affects not only the
physical, but also the mental health, and with efforts, it is possible to increase the level
of happiness. Despite all the outcomes, the study of optimal human functioning is in
early stages, which means that more work is necessary on this subject. [-]
