El especulum morale de Alfonso IX a la luz del pórtico de la gloria

Abstract

La tutoría del regnum es confi ada a Adefonsus IX, Dei gratia Rex Legiones et Gallecie, a través de la Iglesia y su título queda asociado a la rectitud de sus actos (rex eris si recta facias) y deberes. Esta anotación otorga valor fuente bastante fi able a cuanto se dispone en la arquivolta derecha del Pórtico de la Gloria, en su mitad izquierda, donde no parece eventual la presencia en imágenes coronadas de quienes gobernaron el pueblo de Dios y fueron promotores del Pórtico: Fernando II y su hijo Alfonso IX, quienes llevaron adelante una guerra de Reconquista con carácter de cruzada. De modo que no se plantea un impuesto aduanero (el Purgatorio), sí el camino hacia la Gloria (en el tímpano central) de quienes pagaron el impuesto y ajustaron cuentas antes de morir (su causa peregrinationis a Santiago con un sentimiento expiatorio), comportando su biografía un speculum morale. Complementariamente, el conjunto funerario regio, promocionado por Alfonso IX, se aleja del rigor mortis para proponer el gesto en meditación catarsis, como referencia de un estado transitorio (dum mors in vital vertitur) consustancial con los denominados elegidos como prórroga: la vuelta a la vida. Pero en el Pórtico hay otro dato que no es adicional: quien se había autoconcedido el título de protector de peregrinos (Alfonso IX) compulsa la presencia de meus peregrinus en acto de contrición ante el temor condenatori

Th e regnum guardianship is trusted to Adefonsus IX, Dei gratia Rex Legiones et Gallecie, by the Church and his title remains associated to the straightness of his acts (rex eris si recta facias) and duties. Th is note gives a quite enough reliable source to all that it is shown on the right archivolt of the Portico of Glory, where on its left side the apparence of crowned images of whom governed God’s people and were promoters of the Portico does not seem to be casual: Ferdinand II and his son Alfonso IX, who went ahead with a Reconquest war that was of Crusade nature. Th erefore it is not considered to pay duty - the Purgatory - but it is the direct way to the Glory (in the central tympanum) for those who already payed their taxes and settled accounts before dying (their causa peregrinationis to Santiago), thereby entailing their biographies a speculum morale. In addition, the whole royal funerary, which was promoted by Alfonso IX, is kept away from rigor mortis to propose the katharsis as a reference to a transitory condition (dum mors in vital vertitur), inherent in those who are designated for an extension: to return to life. But in the Portico there is still another no additional fact: that who had self conceded the title of pilgrim’s protector (Alfonso IX) compels the meus peregrinus presence in act of contrition for the fear of condemnation.
