La mirada esquinada: doble(s) sentido(s) - Lecturas y reflexiones sobre el cine y el mundo: Mundus horribilis

Abstract

Turning a deaf ear not only to the economic storm but also to the eroded image of his royal family, his ailing figure and a background that would keep anyone else well away from firearms, the monarch goes hunting and fractures his hip. Such cynegetic impertinence, such large-scale mickey-taking, sinks Spaniards even further into unreality. Of course, providentially, and less than two days later, the effable Cristina Fernández de Kirchner's government expropriated YPF, which meant that attention was shifted to a more serious issue, because we don’t know which of the two lowest cards in the suit to keep in our hand – the two (globalisation impoverishes: has the Argentinian president just discovered that that’s the way things are now, because it has amounted to a multinationalisation?) or the three (the model of country shown by the devastating intervention by the Spanish government: a State capitalism that ridicules all that business culture stuff, which makes the oxymoron of “business ethics” even more limpid, although it can also be applied to “political ethics” or “social ethics”). To anyone with even the slightest bit of literary and cinematographic culture, the oil field that goes by the highly enigmatic name of Vaca Muerta, which lies at the origin of the dispute, reeks of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. In other words, we are referring to the legendary goose that laid the golden eggs which will eventually show itself to be a powder keg that will blow up in the expropriaters’ faces. Yet, this does not stop us from crossing ourselves before the sudden canonisation of poor old Antonio Brufau by a nationalism that has closed ranks with a strikingly unquestioning gutsy kind of force.

Haciendo oídos sordos no solo al vendaval económico sino a la erosionada imagen de su real familia, a su achacosa figura y a un pasado que a cualquier otro mantendría alejado de las armas de fuego, el monarca se va de caza y se fractura la cadera. Tanta desfachatez cinegética, tan soberana tomadura de pelo, sume a los españoles aún más en la irrealidad.

Claro que, providencialmente, y menos de dos días después, el gobierno de la inefable Cristina Fernández de Kirchner expropia YPF, con lo que el foco de atención se desplaza a un asunto más serio, porque no sabemos a cual de las dos cartas más bajas del palo de bastos que pinta quedarnos, si con el dos (la globalización esquilma: ¿descubre ahora la presidenta argentina que es así, porque ha consistido en una multinacionalización?) o con el tres (el modelo de país que la fulminante intervención del gobierno español demuestra: un capitalismo de Estado que pone en evidencia qué leches era eso de la cultura de empresa, que hace más que límpido el oxímoron “ética empresarial” y es aplicable a “ética política” o a “ética social”). Ese yacimiento de Vaca Muerta de nombre asaz enigmático, que está en el origen de la querella, huele que apesta a cualquiera con una mínima cultura literaria y cinematográfica a tesoro de Sierra Madre: o sea, a legendaria gallina de los huevos de oro que al final se revelará barril de pólvora, y estallará en la cara de los expropiadores; lo cual no es óbice para que nos hagamos cruces ante la súbita canonización del pobre Antonio Brufau por un nacionalismo que ha cerrado filas con una visceralidad clamorosamente acrítica.
