One way to offset anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions is through forest replanting.
However, it is possible to increase CO2 uptake and improve climate regulation, offsetting
industrial and other emissions, maximizing soil regeneration through erosion reduction, flood
risk reduction, improved water filtration and biotic production. The LANCA® model is the
method recommended by the Joint Research Center for use in Europe, within the framework of
the Environmental Footprint (2013/179/EU), for the evaluation of the impact of land use.
Recently, a conceptual review of this methodology for the calculation of regional factors has
been published with the use of a geographic information system and with the development of
two of these indicators, mechanical filtration and physical-chemical filtration. Our research
makes a scientific contribution to the LANCA® method by developing the rest of the indicators
and adapting them to the Valencian region of Camp de Morvedre. In conclusion, terrestrial and
marine photosynthesis and CO2 sequestration in the region are not sufficient to absorb the
emissions of the registered foci. [-]
