Naturaleza, medioambiente y mujeres en las fuentes medievales y las obras de arte: una primera aproximación

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to wonder about the link between women and ecology in the Middle Ages, and about its impact in written sources and works of art. For achieving it, the paper is divided into three parts. In the first one, a definition of ecology is stated and a consideration about its place in the Middle Ages. In the second part, a posible link between medieval ecology and gender will be studied. In the third part, there will be a longer a analysis of some ecological ítems: air qualiy, deforestation, adaptation of botanic species, etc. among others. Alongside the paper, enviromental information will be obtained from written and material sources. Finally, some conclusions will be presented and a positive or negative answer to the initial question: Was there a link between women and ecology in the Middle Ages?

El objeto de este artículo es preguntarnos si se dio una relación entre mujeres y ecología en la Edad Media y si ello tuvo plasmación en los textos y en el arte. Para ello, estructuraremos el estudio en tres partes. En la primera de ellas, plantearemos una definición de ecología y si esta pudo existir en la Edad Media. En la segunda, veremos si es posible relacionar dicho tema con la perspectiva de género. En la tercerea, que será la más extensa de todas, analizaremos qué fenómenos, de entre todos los posibles, consideraremos en nuestro estudio: calidad del aire, deforestación, aclimatación de especies botánicas, etc. Para ello, nos detendremos en la información que sobre estos procesos pudieran brindarnos los textos escritos y las obras de arte. Finalmente, intentaremos establecer unas conclusiones y contestar positiva o negativamente a la pregunta formulada al inicio.
