| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Objective: to determine the prevalence of hyperuricemia by gender in the Valencian Community, in the population of the IBERICAN-CV sub-study, and how it is associated with other cardiovascular risk factors and with cardiovascular and renal disease. Methodology: this is an epidemiological, multicenter, observational, and crosssectional study that was carried out in primary care clinics in the Valencian Community. Sociodemographic, anthropometric, clinical, and laboratory variables were analyzed in both male and female patients between 18 and 85 years old who met all inclusion criteria and none of the exclusion criteria according to the IBERICAN study. Patients were classified according to gender and whether or not they had hyperuricemia. Results: the study population of the IBERICAN study in the Valencian Community consisted of 770 patients. Of these, 123 patients had hyperuricemia (16%); of which 66 were men (53.66%) and 57 were women (46.34%). Regarding cardiovascular risk factors, a higher prevalence of hypertension, elevated abdominal circumference, sedentary lifestyle, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes mellitus was observed in women. In men, on the other hand, the prevalence was increased in dyslipidemia, tobacco use, obesity and alcohol. Of all these factors, the only significant association was with tobacco use (60.6% of men and 29.8% of women). Cardiovascular and renal risk was increased in men compared to women with hyperuricemia. Conclusions: It has been observed that there is a tendency for patients with hyperuricemia to associate with other cardiovascular risk factors (FRCV), and it is necessary to take a multifactorial approach to reduce them and decrease the socio-sanitary impact. | ca_CA |
