Tratamiento informativo de la muerte de la reina Isabel II en la prensa inglesa

Abstract

El 8 de septiembre de 2022, la Casa Real Británica comunicó el fallecimiento de la soberana Isabel II, tras setenta años de reinado, acontecimiento que generó una gran expectación en todo el mundo. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo conocer el tratamiento informativo realizado por la prensa británica sobre la muerte de Isabel II. Para ello, se realiza un análisis de contenido cuantitativo que se complementa con uno cualitativo. En el primero, se busca conocer aspectos como el grado de cobertura de los medios, las temáticas secundarias de las piezas o la estructura de fuentes presente en cada pieza. Y, el segundo, pretende examinar el framing presente en las noticias a través de la teoría expuesta por Semetko y Valkenburg. Para ello se han seleccionado un total de XX noticias publicadas por seis medios británicos, tres considerados de prensa seria (The Guardian, The Independent y The Daily Telegraph) y tres tabloides (Daily Mirror, The Sun y The Daily Mail). El análisis muestra como la reina Isabel II es el eje central de la mayoría de las piezas y como estas se centran en dar a conocer los homenajes realizados en torno a su figura o en presentar la figura de Isabel II. También se muestra como la fuente más utilizada es las piezas analizadas es la Casa Real Británica y las fotografías el recurso más utilizado. Sin embargo, pese a que la prensa sensacionalista ha publicado un número de piezas más amplio, no se han observado diferencias significativas entre bloques.

On 8 September 2022, the British Royal Family announced the death of the sovereign Elizabeth II, after seventy years of reign, an event that generated great expectation around the world. The aim of this paper is to examine the way in which the British press dealt with the death of Elizabeth II. To this end, a quantitative content analysis is carried out, complemented by a qualitative one. In the first one, the aim is to find out aspects such as the degree of media coverage, the secondary themes of the pieces or the structure of sources present in each piece. The second aims to examine the framing present in the news through the theory put forward by Semetko and Valkenburg. To this end, 4 a total of XX news items published by six British media were selected, three considered serious press (The Guardian, The Independent and The Daily Telegraph) and three tabloids (Daily Mirror, The Sun and The Daily Mail). The analysis shows how Queen Elizabeth II is the central theme of most of the pieces and how they focus on publicising the tributes paid to her or on presenting the figure of Elizabeth II. It also shows how the most frequently used source in the pieces analysed is the British Royal Household, and photographs are the most frequently used resource. However, despite the fact that the tabloid press has published a larger number of pieces, no significant differences have been observed between blocs.
