| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: In the transition to parenthood there is a neurocognitive adaptation. There are areas involved in the modulation of parental behavior, among which the most prominent are the medial preoptic area of the hypothalamus, the ventral tegmental area, the medial prefrontal cortex and the amygdala. Objectives: To perform a systematic review of the literature published in the last five years on parental neuroplasticity studied in humans and to know what are the changes found by means of the MRIf neuroimaging technique. Methodology: A bibliographic search was carried out in two databases, Medline and Scopus. Twenty-four articles were selected which were carried out in the last five years, based on MRI, contained results on parental neuroplasticity in parents and these were first-time parents with children under 1 year of age. Results: The results indicate that there is a modulation in the process of parenthood, producing more intense brain responses in areas related to empathy and social cognition, such as insula, prefrontal cortex and occipital regions. When the parental brain is altered, different neuronal activations are observed with hyperreactivity or decreased sensitivity of some regions. Conclusions: It is currently considered the need to design experiments with model animals to obtain a global understanding of the changes and alterations undergone in parenthood in rodents and whether these findings can be transferred to humans. Such research could help to target the origin of psychopathology and focus the treatment of clinical problems. | ca_CA |
