(Auto)traducción y feminismo transnacional: una propuesta de análisis de la obra de Jhumpa Lahiri

Abstract

This article adopts a transcultural view that takes into account the increasing interconnectedness of cultures in a transnational world of hypermobility. Within this current scenario, investigating the interrelations between translation and feminisms from a transnational perspective is considered a particularly interesting area of study. Therefore, some key theoretical concepts within this research framework have been borrowed in order to approach the literary work of the writer Jhumpa Lahiri. Her latest work also allows us to apply the translation theories of transnational feminism to the practice of self-translation. In the last section of this article we will analyse some fragments from Lahiri's Italian novel <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Dove mi trovo</em> and from her self-translation into English entitled <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Whereabouts</em> that are significant in this sense.

Este artículo adopta una visión transcultural que tiene en cuenta la creciente interconexión de las culturas en un mundo transnacional de hipermovilidad. Dentro de este escenario actual se considera un área de estudio especialmente interesante que investiga las interrelaciones entre la traducción y los feminismos desde una perspectiva transnacional. Para ello, se toman en préstamo algunos conceptos teóricos clave dentro de este marco de investigación para poder abordar la obra literaria de la escritora Jhumpa Lahiri. Su último trabajo también nos permite aplicar las teorías traductológicas del feminismo transnacional en el ámbito de la autotraducción. De hecho, en el último apartado del presente artículo analizaremos algunos fragmentos significativos en este sentido de la novela italiana de Lahiri <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Dove mi trovo</em> y de su autotraducción al inglés titulada <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Whereabouts.</em>
