| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: More and more women are using oral contraceptives (OCPs) due to their reversibility, effectiveness, and ease of use for birth control. This popularity has sparked interest in its side effects. In particular, its association with the risk of having cancer. This contraceptive-cancer relationship has been the subject of debate in recent years, generating doubts when taking them. Objective: To know if the use of contraceptive pills increases the risk of cancer in women of childbearing age. Methodology: Systematic review conducted in Pubmed (Medline), Cochrane Library, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS) y ProQuest, adding the filters of full text, language in English and Spanish, publication in the last 5 years and studies in humans. Results: A total of N=14 articles were selected. 50% (n=7) of the articles associate the use of OCs with an increased risk of cancer. And the other 50% (n=7) of articles do not correlate taking birth control pills with the risk of cancer. Conclusion: The evidence suggests an influence of OCPs on the risk of having breast, cervical, liver, and melanoma cancer. Although, in relation to breast and cervical cancer there is controversy. However, the risk of pancreatic, thyroid, colon and ovarian cancer is not significantly higher in users taking OCPs. | ca_CA |
