Oficios y aprovechamientos tradicionales en la Sierra de Irta

Abstract

El parque natural de la sierra de Irta es un enclave natural de gran riqueza, tanto en flora y fauna, como en muestras antrópicas de gran valor patrimonial e histórico. Para conocer el valor patrimonial de este enclave natural, es necesario hacer un recorrido entre los diversos aprovechamientos disponibles, gracias a los cuales, el ser humano pudo subsistir de forma ingeniosa desempeñando distintos oficios. Encontramos desde ocupaciones tradicionales de la época como la agricultura, el pastoreo y la pesca; hasta otras menos comunes, como la fabricación de crin vegetal, y los hornos de cal y de carbón. La escasez de agua y la complicada orografía fueron los factores principales que condicionaron las actuaciones antrópicas en Irta, encontrando muestras hoy en día de numerosos márgenes y bancales para crear terrazas de cultivo, o distintos sistemas de recogida de agua pluvial. Estas modificaciones humanas fueron respetuosas con el medio ambiente, e hicieron de Irta un lugar en el que vivir y del que alimentarse, en el contexto de finales del siglo XIX hasta mediados del XX. Las construcciones fueron alzadas con la tradicional técnica de piedra en seco, y fueron el punto central de la vida y subsistencia en Irta.

Sierra de Irta Natural Park is a natural enclave of great wealth, both in flora and fauna, as well as in human samples of great heritage and historical value. In order to publicize the heritage value of this natural enclave, it is necessary to take a tour of the uses available, thanks to which, human beings were able to subsist in an ingenious way performing different trades. We find from the traditional occupations of the time such as agriculture, grazing and fishing; to other less common ones, such as the manufacture of vegetable horsehair, and lime and coal ovens. The scarcity of water and the complicated orography were the main factors that conditioned the anthropic actions in Irta, finding samples today of numerous margins and terraces to create cultivation terraces, or different rainwater collection systems. These human modifications were respectful of the environment, and made Irta a place to live and eat, in the context of the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. The constructions were raised with the traditional dry stone technique, and were the central point of life and subsistence in Irta.
