| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: The expansion of Internet and icts has lead to the emergence of some types of addiction, such as, to videogames. The scientific literatura has identified a link between this addiction and affect, but despite the importance of gender, it has not always been taken into account. The aim is to explore the association between problemàtic videogame use and affect by gender. It is hypothesized that higher affective intensity is associated with higher problematic videogame use, particularly among men. Method: For this purpose, 106 people (55.7% women), with a mean age of 25.27 years (SD= 6.59) completed the Spanish adaptation of the Internet Gaming Disorder Test (IGDT-10) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule anonymously and voluntarily. The study follows a descriptive and comparative observational design. Results: 40.4% of the men and 15.4% of the women play videogames at least once a week; 21.3% and 6.8%, respectively, do so every day. In men, there is only a positive relationship between negative affect and having ever played (rho=.375; p=.009); while in women, problematic consumption is linked to both lower positive affect (rho=- .258; p=.049) and higher negative affect (rho=.241; p=.046). Conclusions: The association between affectivity and video game consumption could be different according to gender. Specifically, in men unpleasant emotions are linked to the use of video games, and for women, both negative emotional experience and the absence of positive emotions are associated with problematic consumption. | ca_CA |
