Suicide in the national police corps (CNP). review of the mental health promotion plan and prevention of suicidal behaviour in the CNP

Abstract

Aquest Treball de Final de Grau mostra un anàlisi de dades sobre el suïcidi en el Cos Nacional de Policia (CNP), així com l’estudi sobre el Pla de Promoció de la Salut Mental i Prevenció de la Conducta Suïcida en la Policia Nacional (2020) i l’abast de la seua aplicació. Per l’anàlisi de dades s’han consultat tant bases oficials nacionals com informacions aconseguides a través d’altres organitzacions, com sindicats i mitjans de comunicació. Pel que fa a l’abast de l’aplicació de l’esmentat Pla, la informació s’ha obtingut a través de la Direcció General de Policia (DGP) i d’entrevistes, a títol personal, amb agents del CNP i per telefonades a diferents comissaries del territori espanyol. S’han realitzat dues tècniques d’investigació: la revisió bibliogràfica des de l’any 2000 fins el 2021 i les entrevistes informals a agents del CNP. Aquest estudi té dos objectius principals: el primer, conèixer la incidència del suïcidi en el CNP així com el comportament de diferents variables que afecten a les conductes suïcides en els membres del CNP, realitzant anàlogament una comparació amb la incidència en la Guàrdia Civil i en la població en general. En segon lloc, revisar l’esmentat Pla i l’aplicació (des de la seua entrada en vigor) de les mesures que en ell es plantegen. Els resultats mostren que el nombre de suïcidis en el CNP és semblant a l’ocorregut en la Guàrdia Civil i superior als produïts entre la població general, amb la diferència de l’ús de les armes com a medi d’execució. Pel que fa al Pla de Promoció de la Salut Mental i Prevenció de la Conducta Suïcida en la Policia Nacional, s’aprecia que es troba en un estadi inicial d’aplicació amb mancances de medis molt importants, especialment pel que fa a la falta de professionals de la Psicologia.

This TFG Project shows an analysis of data on suicide in the Spanish National Police (CNP) as well as the study of the Plan for the Promotion of Mental Health and Prevention of Suicidal Behaviour in the national Police (2020) and the extent of its application. For data analysis, both national official databases and information collected by other organizations, such as unions and media, have been consulted. Regarding the scope of the application of the aforementioned Plan, the information has been obtained through the DGP (DirectorateGeneral of the Police) and from interviews with CNP agents in a personal capacity and by calls to different police stations in Spanish territory. Two research techniques have been used: the bibliographic review from 2000 to 2021 and informal interviews with CNP agents. This study has two main objectives: first, we wanted to know the incidence of suicide in the CNP as well as the behaviour of different variables that affect suicidal tendencies in members of the CNP, making a comparison with the incidence in the Civil Guard and in the general population too. Secondly, to review the Plan and the application (from its implementation) of the measures proposed in it. The results show that the number of suicides in the CNP are similar to those that occur in the Civil Guard and higher than those produced in the general population, with the difference being the use of weapons as means of execution. As for the Plan for the Promotion of Mental Health and Prevention of Suicidal Behaviour in the national Police, it can be seen that it is in a very early stage of application, with a significant lack of resources, especially with regard to the lack of psychology professionals.
