¿Por qué se pierde tanto tiempo ante el instrumento? El método de Coso Martínez para aprender a estudiar y tocar un instrumento musical de forma más efectiva

Abstract

"Tocar un instrumento [To Play an Instrument]" (1992/2014) by José Antonio Coso Martínez has become a classic of the Spanish literature in the field of didactics of musical instruments. This article includes fragments of an interview held with its author in June 2021, which narrates the long preparation of his book and the sources of inspiration that motivated him to write it. In addition, a commentary is provided on the method described in the book for learning how to practice a musical instrument highlighting two key needs in the instrumental practice. First, the need to organize practice time in a way that it allows to make the most out of the invested time with sustained attention. Second, the importance of developing adequate study habits that promote a more autonomous and more conscious learning, and less dependent on continuous feedback from the teacher. Finally, some brief personal conclusions are provided reflecting on Coso Martínez's method in relation to Broadwell's four levels of learning and the stages of the Piagetian cognitive development.

"Tocar un instrumento" (1992/2014) de José Antonio Coso Martínez se ha convertido en un clásico de la literatura española en el ámbito de la didáctica de los instrumentos musicales. En el presente artículo se incluyen fragmentos de una entrevista realizada a su autor en junio de 2021, donde se relata el largo proceso de gestación del libro y las fuentes de inspiración que motivaron su escritura. Además, se profundiza en el método de estudio propuesto en <em>Tocar un instrumento</em> destacando dos necesidades clave. Primero, la necesidad de organizar el estudio de modo que se aproveche al máximo el tiempo invertido con una atención sostenida. Segundo, la necesidad de desarrollar hábitos de estudio adecuados que fomenten un aprendizaje más autónomo, más consciente y menos dependiente de una retroalimentación constante por parte del profesor. Finalmente, se aportan algunas breves reflexiones personales contextualizando el método de Coso Martínez en relación a los cuatro niveles de aprendizaje de Broadwell y las fases del desarrollo cognitivo piagetiano.
