La memoria en el foco del artista: evaluando la reconstrucción de las identidades rotas por el alzheimer y otras demencias en fase leve

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the result of an artistic proposal entitled “In the focus of memory”, carried out in the subject Artistic Education in contexts of Health and well-being of the Master's Degree in Artistic Education in Social and Cultural Institutions at the Complutense University of Madrid. The artistic proposal was designed to respond to the objective of validating the identity of people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other mild dementias, confined to their homes and away from therapeutic routines, during the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Spain. The importance of this analysis is established by the specificity of the preventive isolation context, which requires the proponents to organise the actions in such a way that they respond to a reality that is observed in a delayed manner and on which it intervenes, training family carers in the application of a series of artistic techniques. The results obtained, after the application of the qualitative panel technique adapted by De Keulenaer (2008), show how the artistic language established through the intervention of photographs and other biographical documents stimulates sensory memory, facilitating the validation processes of the person's identity in the present. In conclusion, the artistic proposal implemented has made it possible to safeguard the participants' memories in bundles. Through an approach focused on reminiscence, it has been allowed to get in touch with the emotions associated with the memories, avoiding to a certain extent the lack of memory through the committed action of art.

El objeto del presente trabajo es analizar el resultado de una propuesta artística bajo el título, "En el foco de la memoria", llevada a cabo en la asignatura "Educación Artística en contextos de Salud y bienestar" del Máster en Educación Artística en Instituciones Sociales y Culturales de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. La propuesta artística fue pensada para dar respuesta al objetivo de validación de la identidad de las personas enfermas que padecen Alzheimer y otras demencias en fase leve, confinadas en sus domicilios y alejadas de las rutinas terapéuticas, durante la tercera ola a causa de la pandemia por Covid-19, en España. La importancia de dicho análisis viene establecida por la especificidad del contexto de aislamiento preventivo, que exige a los proponentes, organizar las acciones, de modo que éstas den respuesta a una realidad que se observa en diferido y sobre la cual se interviene, capacitando a los familiares cuidadores, en la aplicación de una serie de técnicas artísticas. Los resultados obtenidos, tras la aplicación de la técnica cualitativa de panel, adaptada por De Keulenaer (2008), muestran cómo el lenguaje artístico establecido a través de la intervención de fotografías y otros documentos biográficos, estimulan la memoria sensorial, facilitando los procesos de validación de la identidad de la persona en el presente. En conclusión, la propuesta artística implementada ha permitido salvaguardar los recuerdos en haces de la memoria de los y las participantes, pues mediante un enfoque centrado en la reminiscencia, se ha permitido entrar en contacto con las emociones asociadas a los recuerdos, evitando en cierta medida la desmemoria mediante la acción comprometida del arte.
