| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Hypertension is one of the main modifiable cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF). Objectives: To analyze gender differences in hypertensive patients who attend to primary care medical consultations in the Valencian Community included in the IBERICAN study. Material and methods: Cross-sectional study of a sample of 400 hypertensive patients from Valencian Community between 18 and 85 years of age included in the IBERICAN study. Sociodemographic data, CVRF, basic physical and analytical examination, usual medication, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and renal data are analyzed. The qualitative variables were presented as percentages and were calculated using the Chisquare test, and the quantitative variables as mean and standard deviation and with the Student's T test. The association was considered with a p-value less than 0.05 and a 95% CI. Results: The final sample included 203 men and 197 women. The prevalence of hypertension increased with age in both sexes. Smoking and alcoholism were higher in men than in women, while they performed less physical activity and obtained a worse lipid profile. These differences resulted in a higher CVR in men, although the prevalence of CVD did not differ between sexes. No differences in blood pressure, antihypertensive medication or renal risk were observed. Conclusion: It is important to know the real data of the population to prioritize actions in the field of CVD prevention, and the control of hypertension is a priority. | ca_CA |
