In this work we will study the term obedience and disobedience, as well as the
difference between aggressiveness and violence in order to better understand the
processes that lead us to one and the other, and that can lead to behaviours
contrary to the law. We will see the concept of authority according to Aristotle to find
out how the conception of it has evolved according to the historical moment in which
we find ourselves.
We will deal with the different type of obedience according to the author Erich
Fromm that differentiates between a heteronomous obedience in which the person
submits to another and autonomous obedience where the subject decides for
himself. We will also see the famous Milgram experiment explaining what it
consisted of and the results that were obtained.
Next, we will explain the concepts of obedience and conformity making a
distinction between them to understand exactly what obedience is and what
conformity. This will help us to understand when it is obeyed by imposition and when
it acts in accordance with some mandates, but being in accordance with them, that
is, without real obligation because it agrees with what is asked or what is done.
We will also see the term disobedience, according to Thoreau's thinking, which
will help us understand what it means to disobey and how it has changed, as it
happened with Aristotle's definition of obedience, over time.
We will make a differentiation between the phases of realization of the typical act,
trying to what degree a violent criminal act can be committed without actually
executing it to understand why phrases such as: "I was only following orders", very
common after the Jewish holocaust, are not exemplary nor mitigating the acts that
one commits either by obeying or by one's own conviction.
Within this section, we will deal with Hitler's mandate in relation to the
provocation, proposition, and induction phases, since his movement began as an
incitement to hatred in the referendums that he held. And we will talk about the
current case of Pablo Hasél also related to these phases.
We will continue with the treatment of biological, environmental, and learning
theories that influence the formation of a tendency towards certain behaviours, in
the case that concerns us, obedient and violent behaviour.
Finally, we will analyse the different social processes that take place so that a
group of people come together to achieve common objectives and what is more
important, so that they accept orders that in other situations they would not comply.
Therefore, we will detail the agents causing total obedience to a third party endowed
with superiority and we will exemplify the theoretical basis with real cases such as
the German dictatorship or the one that North Korea is currently suffering. [-]
