La correspondencia entre el Gran Oriente Nacional de España y la United Grand Lodge of England: Un estudio del reconocimiento entre Grandes Logias

Abstract

Las relaciones bilaterales entre grandes logias se fueron intensificando desde mediados del siglo XIX. La masonería española tuvo un momento de expansión desde la Revolución de Septiembre de 1868 que duraría hasta finales de siglo, con multiples grandes orientes compitiendo por la misma jurisdicción. -El Gran Oriente Nacional de España (GONE) intentó durante este período conseguir el reconocimiento de la potencia masónica más importante, la United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), pero

fue rechazado en todos sus intentos. Este artículo presenta los

acercamientos que realizó el GONE y estudia las razones del rechazo por parte del UGLE. Ademas, también analiza la posición internacional de la masonería inglesa que lo propició y especialmente su postura con respecto a la masonería

continental.

Bilateral relations between great lodges were intensifying from the middle of the nineteenth century onwards. Spanish Freemasonry was expanding during the Glorious Revolution, which would last until the end of the century, with multiple great orients competing for the same jurisdiction. During this period the Gran Oriente Nacional of Spain (GONE) requested the recognition of the most important Masonic power, the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), but was rejected in all its attempts. This article presents the approaches made by the GONE and studies the reasons for the UGLE’s rejection. In addition, it also analyses English Freemasonry’s international stance, whih led to the decision, and especially its stance with regard to continental Freemasonry.
