Finance for the sustainable development of the EU. Analysis of the European investment bank

Abstract

Sustainable development is a concept on which there is great consensus at the international level, as reflected in the various United Nations agreements and treaties. Present needs must be met without compromising the capacity of future generations. The EU is fully committed to its achievement and considers that the role to be played by sustainable finance is of vital importance. On the one hand, they have to support a long-term social and economic development, based on innovative economies, which can be both dynamic and environmentally friendly, and on the other hand, promote the circular economy. To support its strategic objectives, the EU created the EIB Group, in order to provide the necessary financing to projects that fulfil the sustainable objectives set by the EU. Everything the EIB Group does is driven by sustainability and social responsibility, with the ultimate goal of promoting innovation and job creation. The promotion of SMEs is one of the EIB Group's main priorities, considering them to be at the heart of the European economy, due to their high economic and professional activity.
