dc.description.abstract | Knowing which variables recidivism is related to will allow us to improve the adjustment of the intervention measure imposed on the minor offenders. Several studies have demonstrated that risk in the youth offender’s life is a good predictor of recidivism. Yet, are the type of crime or mode of commission also predictive variables? Thus, the aim of this research is to find out whether the type of crime and the mode of commission are related to recidivism or only the risk is. To this end, a sample of 210 minors, between 14 and 18.08 years of age, with criminal files in the Juvenile Court of Castellón were obtained. We analyzed: 1) the typology of their first crime (violent/non-violent and individually/ in group), 2) the score on the Youth Level Service of Case Management Inventory (YLS/CMI) and 3) recidivism after 6, 12, 18 and 24 months since the first crime. The results showed that recidivism is related to risk in a set of individual and contextual factors in the minor's life and not to specific characteristics of the offense such as mode of commission and type of crime. This would indicate that the majority of minors are not on a persistent and serious trajectory with a specialization of the crime profile. On the contrary, they are on a punctual specific criminal career which is part of an evolutionary stage with a low probability of recidivism. Another important conclusion is that the risk is no longer related to recidivism 2 years of the first offence. This phenomenon is explained by other studies that indicate that minors usually reoffend between 9 and 12 months. Furthermore, this decrease in recidivism may be an indication of the effectiveness of the intervention measure. | ca_CA |
| ca_CA |
