COGNITIVE REHABILITATION THERAPY IN ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY (ABI) IN SUBACUTE PHASE- SINGLE CASE DESIGN IN FOUR PATIENTS

Abstract

Las funciones cognitivas más afectadas por el daño cerebral adquirido (DCA) son la atención, las funciones ejecutivas y la memoria anterógrada, que están intrínsecamente relacionadas con el rendimiento funcional del sujeto. El deterioro cognitivo está relacionado con condiciones que son discapacitantes y que perjudican a la integración social del sujeto. Por esta razón, es relevante proponer una intervención neuropsicológica temprana, factor que mejora la calidad de recuperación de las habilidades cognitivas y del resultado. El objetivo de este estudio fue poder determinar en cuatro personas con DCA el grado de deterioro cognitivo, así como, si se produjo una mejoría de las funciones cognitivas afectadas durante la fase de intervención y tras su finalización.

The most affected cognitive functions by Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) are attention, executive functions and the anterograde memory which are intrinsically related to the subject’s functional performance. Cognitive impairment is related to conditions that are disabling and harmful to the subject’s social integration. For this reason, it is relevant to propose an early neuropsychological intervention, a factor that improves the quality of recovery of the cognitive skills and the result itself. The objective of this study was to be able to determine in four people with ABI the degree of cognitive impairment as well as whether there was an improvement in the cognitive functions affected during the intervention phase and after its completion.
