How do children in grade 4 of primary school react to success in play? A proposed taxonomy of the responses

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es conocer las respuestas que dan los niños cuando se les plantea una situación donde van a tener éxito en el juego. Participaron un total de 430 alumnos que están cursando 4º de primaria, donde el 50, 3% son niños y el 49% son niñas. Para poder llevarlo a cabo se realizo una categorización de las respuestas a una de las preguntas del cuestionario Tarea sociales de Garcia Bacete (2014), esta categorización siguió el método de la teoría fundamentada indicador-indicador, indicador-categoria y finalmente categoría-categoría. Para llegar a la categorización final se realizaron 3 cambios en las agrupaciones hasta al final llegar a formar 6 categorías. Estas estaban relacionadas con respuestas que estaban centradas en el resultado tanto en el propio como el del compañero del juego, aquellas que se relacionan con mantener la amistad, alargar el juego, las relacionadas con las habilidades o conductas propias y finalmente las respuestas pasivas. Tras realizar una revisión se puede concluir que a estas respuestas se le pueden atribuir diferentes significados dependiendo de cómo se relacionen. Se pueden encontrar respuestas que se relacionen con los objetivos que se haya planteado el niño al empezar el juego, que estos pueden ser o bien para adquirir poder o bien relacionado con ganar afiliación, también se puede encontrar respuestas que se relacionen con las propias creencias que tienen los niños sobre sus propias capacidad o que dependan de atribución que le asignan al éxito en el juego. Por otro lado también se pueden encontrar respuestas que se relacionen con la diversión del juego o que requieran de conductas prosociales para poder mantener la amistad con el compañero de juego.

The objective of this work is to know the responses that children give when they are presented with a situation where they will succeed in play. In it participate 430 students who are in 4th grade, where 50.3% are boys and 49% are girls. For doing it, I make a categorization of the responses to one of the questions in the “Social Task Questionnaire” (Garcia Bacete, 2014), this categorization followed the method of the grounded theory’s indicator-indicator, indicator-caregory and finally category-category. To reach the final categorization, I did 3 changes were made in the groupings until, in the end, they formed 6 categories; These were related to responses that were focused on the result where one is about their own result and the other is about the game partner's result, those that were related to maintaining friendship, lengthening the game, those related to their own abilities or behaviors and finally the passive responses. After conducting a review, it can be concluded that these responses can be assigned different meanings depending on how they are related. Also you can find answers that are related to the objectives that the child has set when starting the game, that can be either to acquire power or related to gaining affiliation, or find answers that are related to the beliefs that the children have about their own abilities or depending on attribution that they assign to success in play. On the other hand, you can also find answers related to the fun of the game or that require prosocial behaviors to maintain friendship with the game partner.
