El tratamiento informativo del caso Valtonyc en la prensa digital española y catalana

Abstract

En este trabajo se examina el tratamiento informativo que ha realizado la prensa digital española y catalana del caso Valtonyc. La realización de este se justifica por la importancia que ha adquirido el debate sobre la libertad de expresión en la agenda de los medios durante los últimos años. El objetivo de la investigación es conocer las diferencias en el tratamiento informativo que le otorgan los principales diarios catalanes y españoles al caso Valtonyc. Para ello, se analizan las noticias publicadas por La Razón, ABC, La Vanguardia, El País, El Periódico de Cataluña, Público, El Punt Avui y ARA. La elección de los periódicos analizados responde a criterios ideológicos (conservadores, centristas y progresistas), así como a factores geográficos (rotativos nacionales y catalanes). Las técnicas de investigación en las que se basa el trabajo son el análisis de contenido cuantitativo y, desde una perspectiva cualitativa, el análisis de encuadre, basada en la teoría del framing descrita por Semetko y Valkenburg (2000). Los resultados del estudio reflejan que la totalidad de los medios analizados otorgó una escasa cobertura mediática sobre el caso Valtonyc hasta que este viaja a Bélgica y comienza a entablar relaciones con el independentismo catalán. No obstante, la inclusión de informaciones relacionadas con el proceso soberanista en las noticias sobre el caso Valtonyc no son destacables. Finalmente, cabe destacar que el predominio del frame de conflicto es un denominador común en los ocho diarios analizados.

This work examines the informative treatment that the Spanish and Catalan digital press has made of the Valtonyc case. The realization of this is justified by the importance that the debate on freedom of expression has acquired on the media's agenda in recent years. Regarding the objective of the investigation, it should be noted that it is intended to know the differences in the informative treatment that the main Catalan and Spanish newspapers give to the Valtonyc case. The newspapers analyzed are the following: ABC, La Razón, La Vanguardia, El País, El Periódico de Cataluña, Público, El Punt Avui y ARA. The choice of these newspapers responds to ideological criteria (conservative, centrist and progressive), as well as to geographical factors (national and Catalan newspapers). The research technique on which the work is based is quantitative content analysis. On the other hand, from a qualitative perspective, framing analysis, based on the framing theory described by Semetko and Valkenburg (2000). Regarding the results of the study, it should be noted that all of the analyzed media granted little media coverage of the Valtonyc case until he traveled to Belgium and began to establish relations with the Catalan independence movement. However, the inclusion of information related to the sovereignty process in the journalistic pieces on the Valtonyc case is not remarkable. Finally, it is important to highlight the protagonism that the conflict frame acquires in all the analyzed media.
