Performance measurement systems: a theoretical review and an illustration to bodega vinícola Les Useres

Abstract

The present work proposes a review of the literature of the Performance Measurement Systems and its influence on the fulfillment of the objectives and their performance. In particular, the work identifies the different types of PMS, their contributions and limitations, and how they are implemented within each company, since, if the PMS used by companies is used correctly and it is appropriate, it facilitates the obtaining of the objectives established by the companies. In the second part, the application of PMS in the Les Useres wine cooperative is illustrated. Based on a set of in-depth interviews with eight employees of the cooperative (management, partners, clerk and commercial staff and plant operators), the type of PMS is evaluated, its suitability for the cooperative and its implications for the results and the achievement of the proposed objectives. The work concludes with a discussion about the need to develop a PMS that facilitates the achievement of the objectives and, by extension, of the performance.
