| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | In cases of suicide, the inadequate treatment of the information can cause an imitation or contagion effect on part of the audience, know as Werther effect, however, the same information treated with a responsible method, according to various documents from the World Health Organization (WHO), contributes to prevent this Werther effect, developing the oposite results know as the Papageno effect. This Final Degree Project develops an investigation about the treatment of suicide in media, and the strategy used by these media by publishing, or not, a communication based on their deontological codes and assessing the consequences of publishing news about suicide. Every suicide new published in the digital newspapers ElMundo.es, ElPais.es and ElDiario.es, specifically during a year between April 15, 2018 and 15 April 2019 (a total of 66 units) has been investigated through techniques of quantitative content analysis. The objective is to identify what bad practices reported by the World Health Organization are repeated more frequently and in which ways. Furthermore, from a qualitative perspective, depth interviews to four journalists are used to contextualize and interpret the quantitative data in a better way. The results allow the design of a guide proposal for professionals that expands the current of the WHO recommendations, paying attention to the impact of Internet and social networks in the dissemination of the information. This is an original contribution in this research that can help with the prevention of suicidal behavior. | ca_CA |
